This course was one of the most interesting ones among the those I have taken throughout 4 years. In this class, we talked about so many theories and topics related to the field of Translation and interpretation. Moreover, in this class we had very interesting discussions while people were delivering presentations. In addition, when we were working on the worksheets given us by you, I think it was very meaningful to let us try to translate them and discuss our opinions of word choices during the class as a whole class. Furthermore, I so much enjoyed the project that we were supposed to complete as a group of three, and actually by this project and I realized how well I can translate a text into a language. Since I did not think I could be able to translate a text related to some culture, I saw that I actually can do it.
As a future teacher I found this course very useful, because a teacher needs to know at least the basic vocabulary items in particular fields of science and random topics such as pyschology, sociology, biology, advertisement sector etc. After taking the second year course and this fourth year course, I can say that I can now truely understand some basic topics in this field. And it made me more aware of the points that I should be paying attention to while I am translating a piece of work from a language into another. Besides, taking these courses was very informing about how to choose words depending on a concept/context/topic by using a dictionary.
To compare and contrast these two courses which I have taken so far, I cna say that in the first translation course we worked on translating pieces for most of the time, we delivered one presentation about the works we tried to translate and ended the course with a translation project. However, on this course, we delivered presentations on theories related to the field of Translation and Interpretation. In addition to this, we also had some guests in the class who gave us unique information about this field and we had the change to work on the materials which made the class very meaningful.
To state my own opinions for further changes in the course, actually everything went well during the class. However, I just could add that the projects that we were supposed to work on, such as the weekly translation pieces, should have been handed in early due dates, because when it is not that way, the students leave the projects till the last days of the extended due dates which makes it harder to concentrate on them which leads to weak projects.
